WASHINGTON , D.C. – Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Chairman Daniel K. Inouye (D-Hawaii) announces representatives from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Hawaii Institute for Marine Biology (HIMB), and the University of Hawaii (UH) at Manoa will testify before a Committee field hearing on Climate Change Impacts and the Reponses in Island Communities. A full witness list for the March 19, 2008 hearing is listed below.
Islands have unique characteristics that make them especially vulnerable to climate change and variability. Given this fact, the hearing will address climate change issues facing Hawaii and other Pacific island communities, and how they are responding to climate change which may form the basis for national or regional models. The hearing also will address Hawaii’s leadership in clean energy technologies, agricultural research, and disaster preparedness.
