ROBERT C. BYRD HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

HONOLULU, HAWAII -- United States Senator Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka, along with Representatives Patsy T. Mink and Neil Abercrombie, today announced the selection of 28 Hawaii recipients of the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship. A State Selection Committee participated with the Hawaii State Department of Education in choosing the recipients. Under the federally-funded national scholarship program, each winner will receive a $1,121 financial award for the first year of college study. The scholarship is renewable for the next three years. The program is designed to promote student excellence and achievement by recognizing exceptionally able high school seniors who show promise of continued excellence.

The scholars from the First Congressional District are:

-- Ms. Ronna Bolante of Sacred Hearts Academy, daughter of Remedios and Ambrose Bolante of Honolulu.

-- Mr. Christopher Cha of Mid-Pacific Institute, son of Peggy Cha of Honolulu.

-- Ms. Megan Fong of Hawaii Baptist Academy, daughter of William and Judith Fong of Honolulu.

-- Mr. Stephen Goo of Punahou School, son of Milton and Frances Goo of Waipahu.
