WASHINGTON, D.C. -- United States Senator Daniel K. Inouye is pleased to announce that that former Maui Police Chief Howard H. Tagomori, by unanimous consent, was confirmed by the United States Senate as the new U.S. Marshal for the District of Hawaii.

"I wish to extend my congratulations and best wishes to Chief Tagomori in his new capacity as the U.S. Marshal for the District of Hawaii. Chief Tagomori is an outstanding law enforcement officer with an impressive 35-year career as a police officer on Maui and Oahu. I am certain that Chief Tagomori will represent the State of Hawaii and our nation with much integrity and distinction," said Senator Inouye.

"I would also like to express my deep appreciation for the excellent work of Ms. Annette Kent. As U.S. Marshal for the last six years, Ms. Kent has served with integrity and professionalism. The Justice Department will soon commence construction of a desperately needed federal detention facility in Hawaii. This important project will become a reality in large part due to Anne Kent's leadership and guidance. She has been a true asset to federal law enforcement in Hawaii, and she has my utmost respect and well wishes for the future," continued Senator Inouye.

Established in 1789, the United States Marshals Service is the nation's oldest federal law enforcement agency. Today, Presidentially appointed U.S. Marshals and their support staff are essential to virtually every aspect of the federal justice system. The Marshals Service is responsible for: providing support and protection to the federal courts; apprehending federal fugitives; ensuring the safety of government witnesses; maintaining custody of and transporting federal prisoners and detainees; and seizing, managing and selling property forfeited by drug traffickers and other criminals.

Born in Puunene, and raised in Kahului, Maui, Chief Tagomori is a Baldwin High School graduate and U.S. Army veteran. He is married to Lorraine Gaudia Tagomori. They have a son and daughter, Reid and Kris.
