HONOLULU AIRPORT TO RECEIVE MORE THAN $11 MILLION FOR EWA CONCOURSE RENOVATIONS
August 18, 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON-The Honolulu International Airport will receive more than $11 million to continue the renovation of the third level of the international concourse, U.S. Senators Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka announced today.
Hawaii will receive $11, 835,001 through a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
“The continued renovation and improvement of Honolulu International Airport is vital to ensuring that our visitor industry bounces back from the current recession,” said Senator Inouye. “Our international visitors require the same safe and secure conditions that our residents and domestic travelers enjoy.”
“This is an important investment in Hawaii's biggest industry,” said Senator Akaka. “These needed improvements to the international terminal at Honolulu Airport will provide our visitors from abroad with a positive first impression of the Aloha State.”
The funds will be used to continue the rehabilitation of the enclosed air-conditioned sterile corridor on the third level of the Ewa Concourse.
The project is necessary to enhance the safety and security of arriving international passengers to the immigration and customs area for clearance.
