HONOLULU – The list of witnesses who will testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations include Governor Linda Lingle, Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann, State Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, and representatives involved with the development of infrastructure, energy initiatives, social programs and other federal, state, and county services, Senate Appropriations Chairman Daniel K. Inouye announced today.
The committee will meet in open session at 9:30 am on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the State Capitol Building, Room 325.
The hearing is being held to gauge the progress the state has made spending federal stimulus dollars provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
More than $1 billion was appropriated for Hawaii in February through the ARRA, and $699 million has been made available, according to Recovery.gov
The program, entitled “Stimulating Hawaii’s Economy: Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009,” will allow Chairman Inouye to receive status reports and question government officials and representatives from other agencies.
Chairman Inouye wants to ensure the federal funds are being carefully spent and used to fund projects, create jobs and bolster support services.
Written statements from non-scheduled witnesses are welcome.
